Myanmar Tagaung Taung Nickel Plant Project

The Tagaung Taung Nickel Mine Project, as a national-level cooperation project between China and Myanmar, was formally proposed in March 2004. In July of the same year, the two countries signed the Tagaung Taung Nickel Resource Exploration and Feasibility Study Agreement. In 2009, construction of the nickel mine project broke ground. After more than two years of effort, mine construction was largely completed, and a production commencement ceremony was held on March 27 this year.

The Tagaung Taung Nickel Mine is China's largest metallurgical mining investment project in Myanmar to date, with an investment of approximately 5.589 billion RMB (approximately 825 million USD). The nickel ore will be processed locally into ferronickel alloy, which serves as a crucial raw material for TISCO (Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group) in stainless steel production. The completion of this project not only contributes to promoting Myanmar's economic development but also provides China with a reliable and stable supply channel of raw materials for stainless steel production.

This project, with a total value of US$486 million, involves providing Kazakhstan Copper Corporation with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, including the supply of equipment and materials, equipment installation, and civil construction. The project is for the development of Kazakhstan Copper Corporation's Bozshakol copper ore processing plant. Located in the western part of the Pavlodar Region, Kazakhstan, approximately 230 km from the capital Astana, the site benefits from relatively well-developed infrastructure. The Bozshakol sulfide ore concentrator has an ore processing capacity of 25 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), and the clay ore concentrator has a capacity of 5 Mtpa, resulting in a total combined capacity of 30 Mtpa. The mine is designed for a service life of no less than 40 years.
